Engagement

ocean governance ocean governance

The threats to oceans and coastal communities are significant and growing. The Ocean Governance Collaborative conducts research on a wide range of socially and politically salient issues. We believe we have a responsibility to share our research in creative ways with diverse audiences so that our work can inform deliberation, debate, and decision-making – and ultimately advance more effective and equitable ocean conservation and governance.

We also know that publishing scientific papers isn’t enough.  That’s why we invest significant time and resources into science communication and two-way engagement, including by:

  • Nurturing thought partnerships with diverse communities of practice – including NGOs, government agencies, funders, and natural resource managers
  • Speaking to journalists and writing articles in popular press outlets, such as The Conversation or Current Conservation
  • Sharing our findings in infographics, reports, and pamphlets alongside our academic papers
  • Collaborating with graphic designers and artists help us communicate our work in more engaging and creative ways
  • Hosting webinars and convening workshops
  • Using videos to elevate the voices of research participants directly
  • Providing feedback on policies and plans
  • Ensuring that we discuss our research with local research participants and decision-makers in the places we work
